10 things that you can never put in the microwave

For many, a microwave is just a lifeline. This is especially true of those who need to quickly have breakfast and go to work, or those in the office who need to quickly warm up the food.

It is worth noting that the microwave was invented by chance during World War II, when scientists investigated radar. One of the engineers noticed that a chocolate bar melted in his pocket.

Despite the fact that in the microwave you can warm a lot of products, there are things that you absolutely can’t put into it.

Before you press the "Start" button next time, make sure that you do not put any of the following into it.

1. Foil and what it does in the microwave

If you have ever put the foil in the microwave, then after a few seconds you understand why this is a bad idea.

A microwave oven uses its metal walls to reflect and concentrate microwaves in your food, but thin metal sheets are a different matter.

The foil cannot withstand the microwaves and begins to absorb them and heat up, and so quickly that a fire occurs.

2. Grapes in the microwave

Of course, hardly anyone wanted to warm the grapes. But even if you have such an idea, it is better not to do it.

Because of its size and shape, grapes quickly absorb and amplify microwaves, which leads either to its ignition or to an explosion of grapes.

3. Can I put dishes from expanded polystyrene in the microwave?

At the expense of this material, and more specifically the foam containers with takeaway food, and their heating in the micro-trap, there is a lot of controversy.

Such containers may not harm the microwave oven, but this does not mean that they can be heated in it. Polyfoam is a type of plastic that can melt if it is heated for a long time.

But even if it does not melt quickly, there is another snag - it copes poorly with heat. Polyfoam consists of materials that are carcinogenic in large quantities.

Drinking foam cups will not cause you cancer, but if you heat it in the microwave, then some dangerous chemicals that you would not want to swallow can stand out from the material and mix with the contents of the glass.

4. Eggs in the microwave

There are many ways to cook eggs. One of them involves the use of a microwave. However, for starters, the egg must be broken if you want to avoid confusion.

The egg inside the shell heats up very quickly if it is put in a microwave. Steam is created inside the shell. When the shell can no longer cope with pressure, it explodes.

In an ideal world, such containers should be made so that they can be easily and safely used to preheat food in the microwave. But, as you may have guessed, this is not at all the case.

Some containers may have metal handles, and they, when heated in a microwave, act in the same way as foil.

6. Paper bags

At first glance, nothing terrible is to warm up the food in a regular paper bag. However, this may have some unpleasant consequences.

Brown paper bags can emit toxic smoke during heating - it is absorbed into the food, thus making it unhealthy. They can also catch fire.

First, the milk can be heated unevenly, which can be dangerous for the sensitive mouth of an infant. Secondly, heating in a microwave oven can destroy the immunostimulating proteins found in breast milk, and this in turn reduces its usefulness.

8. Thermos mug

Such circles take a hike. They are made of stainless steel and may not allow heat to heat their contents. If you put a mug with the contents in the microwave, then the latter can be spoiled. However, if the thermos cup is made of plastic, then it is worth checking its bottom, where, as a rule, it is indicated whether it is safe to heat it in the microwave.

Frozen meat is not easy to defrost in the microwave - when its thin edges are already beginning to bake, the thick middle still remains icy. And this applies only to those furnaces where there is a rotating stand. But if it is not there, then the heat will be distributed even more unevenly, and this leads to the development of bacteria in meat. It is best to move the meat from the freezer to the refrigerator - this is the most effective way to defrost it.

10. Gilded dishes are not microwaveable.

Beautiful plates and cups with gold, used to be very popular, but to put them in a microwave to warm something, you should not. And all because the metal parts can reflect microwave waves, and they return to the magnetron, thereby heating it. Inside the microwave you will see only small sparks that will fly away from the gilding.

Harm to an empty microwave

Do not turn on the microwave if there is nothing in it. The fact is that the magnetron, which produces microwaves, begins to absorb them, since there is nothing more to do (there is no food and water inside the microwave). Besides the fact that the furnace is spoiled, it is also possible to provoke a fire. Make sure that you do not accidentally press the "Start" button.
