Making home stocks is a very useful habit: everything you need is always at hand, and if any ingredient of your favorite dish is suddenly over, it is enough to take more from the pantry and not rush to the store. Moreover, there are products that can be stored for a very long time.

We were puzzled by the questions of shelf life and found products that can be stored for years - and they do not spoil at all.

Pasta

Pasta in any form is a truly indispensable product. Freshly cooked homemade noodles can be stored for a couple of days, but if it is dried, the shelf life will increase to a couple of months (especially if there are no eggs in the dough). A factory-made pasta can be stored for up to 2 years after the expiration date, which in total will be about 4 years. The main thing - to keep it in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area.

Melted butter

This very convenient way to store oil was used with might and main long before refrigerators were invented at all. Oil from an open can can be used for a year, and if it is stored in an airtight container that does not get direct sunlight, as much as you like. This rule also works for purchased oil - if you didn’t open the can, you can use the product at any time.

Flour

Remember how flour bought in bags, in reserve? And for this there are reasons. The shelf life of flour is at least 12 months, and some manufacturers declare 10 years. The main thing is to keep it in a dry and cool place. In addition, the flour can be used after the expiration date: for six months for wheat flour and a year for corn flour.

Dried mushrooms, berries and greens

Dried products are convenient because they take up little space, and after a little soaking, they again get a “fresh” taste. After drying, the mushrooms must be stored in an airtight container or a strong bag so that their main enemy, insects, cannot reach them. Such mushrooms can be stored for a year or more. Dried berries can be stored for the same amount - until they lose their color or they have an unpleasant smell.

And dried greens retain their qualities even longer - 2 years even in the clear. Its main enemy is smells, so you should keep the greens away from the stove and other strongly smelling places.

Jerky and fish

Dried meat and fish also perfectly complement domestic supplies: they take up little space, can be cooked on their own and stored for a long time. If the dried product is cooked at home and lies in the pantry, its shelf life will expire after a couple of months, but in a sealed vacuum packaging the shelf life increases to one year.

Canned beans and dry beans

Beans and other legumes in canned form will be edible for at least a year, and in dried beans - as long as required. In addition, they are less whimsical in storage, and insects are not afraid of them, so you just need to avoid moisture.

Pickled vegetables

Marinating vegetables is a great way to stock them for a long time, any grandmother will confirm this. If the whole preservation process was carried out correctly, there was enough salt and vinegar in the brine, and the banks were sterile, then your preparations would be fit for human consumption for 2 years.

The nuts

Nuts are full of nutrients and are high in calories, due to which they quickly saturate. It is convenient to take them with you and keep them at home for a snack - especially for those who are on a diet. Most of the nuts are beautifully stored for 2 years, with the exception of pistachios - they should be consumed within 3 months.

Of course, there are other products with a long shelf life: cereals, soy sauce, alcohol ... All together it will be an excellent basis for your home pantry. And what products do you like to take with a stock?
