Many of us know firsthand what a small room is.

Dimensions of "Khrushchev" are very modest, so the rooms are quite difficult to simultaneously both functional and comfortable.

However, designers know a lot of tricks through which you can visually expand the space.

1. Cornice

Low hung eaves.

Hanging eaves with curtains directly above the window, you "cut" the already small space. This will cause the ceiling to appear much lower than it actually is. In addition, the eaves above the window visually reduces the window itself and creates an atmosphere of isolation.

Fortunately, the problem is easier to solve. You just need to hang the eaves, as high as possible and choose the curtains longer. Due to this, the window opening will seem much larger, and the space itself will “stretch” to a height. By the way, a good pair of such a window will be a high doorway.

2. Lighting

One ceiling chandelier.

Lighting - an important point in the design of a small space. Despite the small room, one ceiling chandelier will not be enough, as it will only illuminate the center of the room, leaving all corners dark. Thus, in the evening, the room will seem tiny and gloomy.

If you want the room to look more spacious, fill it with light. Lamps need to be placed at different levels. Several spotlights, a chandelier, a pair of table lamps and wall lamps will help fill the room with light and make it more visually.

3. Height of furniture

Low furniture in the room.

A few years ago, designers in one voice trumpeted that the furniture for small rooms should be neat and low. And this statement really seemed logical, because small furniture allows you to free a lot of space around you. However, life in such an interior will remind you of a dwelling in a doll house.

In fact, do not try to assemble the whole set of "dwarf" furniture in the room, pick up a few large interior items. A moderate amount of overall furniture in combination with small things will help to visually increase the space. For example, a large sofa, occupying a third of the room, will create the illusion of space if there are small side tables or a coffee table next to it.

4. Small carpet

Too small carpet.

Surprisingly, a small carpet can negate all your efforts to increase the space of a small room. The fact is that a small carpet, located in the middle of a room or on another open area, will divide the floor into fragments and visually reduce the area.

Where better to pick up a large carpet that will cover all or most of the room. This technique will create the illusion of free space, and a well-chosen print on the carpet will help to visually lengthen or expand the area of the room.

5. Dark colors

Overuse of dark colors.

To use dark colors in the decoration of all the walls of a small room is a huge mistake. If you still can not overcome the desire to paint the entire bedroom in black, brown, dark blue or another shade of the dark spectrum, be prepared for the feeling that you live in the basement. Remember, dark shades are only suitable for large rooms. Little ones need light.

White, light gray, milky, beige, soft pink, blue, yellow are the best friends of the owners of small apartments. If you do not have enough dynamics and you want to add a touch of "darkness", select the appropriate floor finish or highlight one of the walls with color.

6. Earth furniture

Furniture without legs.

Downstairs furniture without legs, looks very cumbersome. Such furniture is strictly not suitable for small spaces.

But the furniture on the legs, on the contrary, will allow profitable to beat the interior of a small room. Such furniture will help to create a sense of spaciousness, even where it is not. Just do not forget about the timely cleaning, because the garbage is also the enemy of small rooms.
