How to clean the electric oven of grease, soot and other persistent pollution: proven methods

All manufacturers recommend cleaning the inner and outer surfaces of the oven immediately after each cooking. The goal is to prevent the formation of contaminants. To do this, use liquid cleaners and a soft sponge. Abrasive powders, hard sponges and metal brushes do not need to be used, as they can damage the enamel coating. How to clean the oven and what tools are most effective?

Chemical cleaning

In retail outlets there are the richest offers on the choice of all kinds of gels for cleaning electric ovens, ovens, other heating appliances used in home and professional kitchens. In the built-in ovens, skilled hostesses bake delicious dishes with the help of hot air. There are many advantages to an electric oven, but there are also significant disadvantages. In the first place - this is the release of fat vapors, its own juice products and other formations that lead to the appearance of pollution. Commercials tirelessly talk about the merits of Frosch, "Mr. Muskul", "Schumanita", "Silith Benga", "Medicare Antizhir" and other liquid cleaners.

The variety of cleaning products is impressive

But chemistry is chemistry. Its harmful traces can get into the food. Some chemicals have a strong odor that spreads throughout the kitchen. Others are not as effective in combating pollution. Most gels require the use of protective equipment - gloves, respirators, masks - and good ventilation of the premises. Gels with the addition of a small amount of water form a rich foam, which easily cope with greasy stains and stubborn carbon. Therefore, it is sufficient to spray the contaminated areas with household chemical gel and wait for a period (the method of application is written on the package). All mud stains will lag behind. Then they are washed off with warm water.

Important: Do not use chemical washing gels, which include acids. These potent substances can damage the enamel coatings of the oven: on the walls, ceiling and bottom.

Folk methods

Steam (hydrolysis cleaning)

Using steam is a budget and safe option.

This is an affordable, effective, proven method of cleaning the internal enamel coatings of the oven from long-standing deposits of dirt. Water is poured into the baking tray, a little liquid soap or dishwashing detergent is added. The container is placed in the oven chamber and the thermal mode is turned on (about 120 degrees Celsius). As soon as the water boils, reduce the temperature to 110 degrees and boil for at least 30 minutes. If this time is not enough for steaming dirt, increase the evaporation time to one hour. Then turn off the oven and cool to room temperature. Wash the mud with a sponge dipped in warm soapy water. Be sure to wipe all surfaces with a dry cloth.

Important: in order to avoid burns to the face and hands, do not open the oven door at the time of intensive steam formation.

Baking soda

Baking soda is a universal remedy that should be in every kitchen.

Many housewives use ordinary baking soda not only as an additive in food, but also as a universal cleaner for kitchen utensils. It will perfectly cope with dirt inside the oven's thermal chamber, including the glass of the door. A third of a glass of soda diluted with a small amount of water - until a thick mass. In the evening, apply this paste to dirty places and leave until morning. Then wipe off the mixture of soda and dirt with a damp sponge and rinse with warm clean water. The effectiveness of the cleaning properties of soda can be enhanced by adding ordinary table salt in proportion: one part of salt can be mixed with four parts of soda.

Good results are obtained using baking powder dough (a mixture of baking soda and citric acid in a 1: 1 ratio). If the baking powder is applied to the dampened surfaces of the oven, then after some time the fat will lag behind the enameled surface. A sponge moistened with soapy water will easily wash away the dirty solution from the internal surfaces of the oven.

Vinegar contains acids, so for some surfaces it is better to choose another cleaning option.

Weak impurities are washed off with a mixture of water and vinegar in a 1: 1 ratio. To do this, a mixture of vinegar and water is applied to the inner walls of the oven with a spray gun, the oven is turned on at a temperature of +50 degrees. After a quarter of an hour, the pollution is easily removed with a sponge and warm, clean water. Vinegar perfectly removes soot with fat impurities, so the heat chamber near the oven will look like new.

Baking soda + vinegar

Acetic essence and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) enter into a chemical reaction between themselves and emit carbon dioxide. He can easily cope even with old fat deposits. To start cleaning the thermal chamber of the oven and the door with a mixture of acid and alkali, do the following:

  • Spray vinegar on all surfaces inside the heat chamber.
  • Pour soda on a moistened sponge and treat contamination with it. Open the door completely and sprinkle with soda too.
  • Treat the treated surfaces for several hours so that the vinegar and soda will most effectively destroy the inveterate fat.
  • Apply a little soda on a semi-rigid sponge and wipe walls, trays, bottom and door without pressure.
  • Wash all cleaned surfaces with warm water.

The traditional method - soap

The higher the percentage of fatty acids (in the picture is 72%), the more effectively the soap will cope with contamination.

Laundry soap does not contain chemical impurities, so it is safe for health and does not harm the environment. Effective removal of pollution occurs due to the alkaline environment, which is formed when diluting soap with water. The cleaning procedure is as follows:

  1. 50 grams of soap to rub on a fine grater.
  2. Dissolve formed chips in boiling water tank.
  3. Put the container in the oven and turn on the temperature at 150 degrees.
  4. Let the soapy water boil for about one hour.
  5. Fat stains, burns, prikipepevshie pollution gently removed with a semi-rigid sponge.
  6. All surfaces are washed with clean water.
  7. The oven door remains open during the day to erode a specific smell of laundry soap.

Due to the presence in its composition of sodium and chlorine, ordinary salt will help get rid of soot and dirt.

This is one of the most affordable, effective and fast cleaning products at home. Sodium and chlorine when heated destroy old fat deposits, make them loose and soft. The action algorithm is the simplest:

  • Sprinkle salt on horizontal surfaces: baking sheets, trays, shelves and the bottom of the oven thermal chamber.
  • Turn on the heat and bring the temperature to the values at which the salt takes a golden hue.
  • Turn off the oven and let it cool.
  • Rinse the door, walls, trays, trays and the bottom with warm water with a small addition of liquid foaming agent for dishes.
  • Rinse all surfaces with clean water and dry with a paper towel.

Ammonia can be bought at any pharmacy

This way you can deal with the most persistent pollution. The ammonia can return the original purity even to the oldest oven. Cleaning can be done in two ways - cold and hot. In the first case, liquid ammonia is applied to all internal surfaces in the oven with an abundantly moistened sponge and kept for 8-12 hours. Then all contaminants are removed with warm water with a small amount of detergent added. In the second case, two small containers are put in the oven: with liquid ammonia - on the upper shelf, with water - on the lower one. The oven heats up to 100 degrees (water must boil). Then it disconnects from the network, the door closes and it cools down during the night. In the morning, liquids from both tanks are mixed with a small amount of dishwashing detergent. This solution is applied to the internal surfaces of the oven, and then washed off with warm clean water. The effect will be excellent.

Lemon juice

Lemon will not only wash the oven, but also remove unpleasant odors

Citric acid is easy to cope with fatty contaminants. Here, too, there are two options. In the first case, squeezed juice from a lemon, which is mixed with an equal amount of water. This liquid is treated with internal surfaces. In the second case, lemon slices are placed in a container with water and a small amount of dish detergent is added. Put the container in the oven heated to 100 degrees and hold for 30-40 minutes. Allow to cool, then with the help of a sponge and this mixture remove all grease from the walls, baking sheets, bottom and oven door.

Self-cleaning systems of electric ovens

Self-cleaning function was designed for professional kitchen equipment. But technologies are improving, cheapening and becoming more accessible to conventional electric built-in oven. Many housewives are happy to rid themselves of the tedious and dirty work of cleaning the oven from the accumulated fat deposits.

Easy self-cleaning system EasyClean

The most common self-cleaning technology (used on models from all manufacturers) is the lining of the inside walls of the oven with special coatings of easily cleaned smooth enamels. Such coatings do not absorb pollution. This cleaning system is called EasyClean. Using it is easy:

  • Pour some water into the special cavity in the bottom of the oven (a little less than half a glass).
  • Add a few drops of special detergent composition.
  • Turn on the heat mode of the oven 100 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
  • Collect all contamination from the bottom of the oven with a sponge, which will settle there with the hot steam condensate of the cleaner.
  • Wipe all surfaces with a paper napkin.

Catalytic cleaning

Catalytic cleaning built-in oven - a chemical decomposition of fats into simple components: water, soot (carbon) and organic matter without the formation of soot. At the same time, these constituents are absorbed by the sorbent formed from nano-particles. These actions are caused by oxidizing agents that are part of a special coating. Only the side walls or all the internal surfaces of the built-in oven can be veneered with this porous enamel. The catalytic cleaning system starts automatically when the oven temperature reaches 140 degrees. It is most effective at a temperature of 200 degrees.

Some manufacturers enhance the cleaning effect of the coating using a special built-in catalyst. In models of the concern Miele, this device is called AirClean, in Siemens ovens it is called AktiKat. Catalytic purification is used by all manufacturers. This method of cleaning is recommended to those housewives who often use an electric oven to cook dishes, but at the same time want to save on the cost of the oven and energy consumption. The disadvantages of this method include:

  • manual washing of a baking sheet, lattices, a grill;
  • periodic manual cleaning of surfaces, to remove not completely absorbed soot;
  • the efficiency of the decomposition of fats decreases dramatically when milk and sugary products hit the catalytic surface;
  • requires frequent use of the oven to cope with large fatty contaminants;
  • limited coverage life of 4-5 years.

EcoClean cleaning system

This system is still a world novelty. It is mainly used by two manufacturers: Bosch and Siemens, but other companies are also interested in it.

EcoClean self-cleaning kit from Bosch

There is an innovation in the application of a new high-quality ceramic coating EcoClean for self-cleaning of the oven. This type of cleaning starts automatically when the oven is turned on and heated to 270 degrees. At the same time, all occurring contaminants become easily removable. Up to 80% of all odors are absorbed simultaneously. The know-how of the invention is to use the smallest ceramic beads that destroy carbon deposits with strong heating. They have an amazing ability to independently restore their unique properties at high temperatures, which makes this coating durable. This coating is applied only on the back wall. The rest of the internal surfaces with EcoClean ceramics are purchased separately.

Pyrolytic cleaning

Pyrolysis is an effective technological technique in which all the pollution inside the oven is burned. Hard pyrolysis mode is activated using a special button. The thermal regime reaches a temperature of 500 degrees. The door is automatically locked against accidental opening. Pyrolysis requires additional expenses of electricity, therefore models of such ovens are equipped with powerful heating elements. When turned on, all fat deposits are transformed into ash, which is easily removed with a damp sponge or cloth. All control over the pyrolysis process is imposed on the electronics. In the door (if there is this function) several glasses are installed to prevent strong heating of the outer glass.

Pyrolytic cleaning results

This cleaning method is not without flaws. When burning fatty contaminants a persistent odor is formed. Powerful ventilation is required to remove it. The main weak point of ovens with this self-cleaning method is the high price. Cleaning using pyrolysis is widely used in their models by manufacturers such as Bosch, Ariston, Siemens, Miele. Moreover, Siemens uses a special glass for the oven door, which is also cleaned of fat when the pyrolysis mode is on.

Let's sum up

  • If an electric oven is used occasionally, the best recommendation is to steam clean.
  • If in the built-in oven cook dishes at least once a week - cleaning with a catalyst or ecoClean coating.
  • If the oven is used much more often - powerful cleaning by pyrolysis.

When choosing an oven, many practical housewives pay attention not only to the access and convenience of manual cleaning to the internal surfaces (lack of seams, protrusions, recesses, folding grills, etc.), the presence of a self-cleaning system, but also the possibility of cleaning the space between the door glass. Different manufacturers have different ways to disassemble the door. It is necessary to carefully study the operating instructions: someone must first remove the door, and then disassemble it using a cross-head screwdriver; other glass can be removed without removing the door, without using a tool.

How to rid the oven of odors?

Lemon Peel

  1. Pour water into a small metal dish.
  2. Add lemon or orange peel.
  3. Put in the oven.
  4. Include a temperature of 100 degrees.
  5. Boil water in it for 10-15 minutes.

Apple vinegar

Quickly eliminates the unpleasant smell of ordinary apple cider vinegar. Moisten a cloth with it and wipe the internal surfaces of the oven's thermal chamber.

Table salt is an effective absorbent and easily absorbs all odors. Pour half a glass of salt on a baking sheet and heat the built-in household oven to 150 degrees. Hold at this temperature for about a quarter of an hour.

Clean - the guarantee of health. This axiom must be fulfilled even in trifles. In the oven, when baking products, fat is released, which will accumulate on the internal surfaces with each cooking of a new dish. Then he starts to smoke, filling the kitchen with an unpleasant smell. Pollution worsens the taste of the finished dish, adversely affect its appearance. Therefore, it is not necessary to accumulate fat deposits in the oven, which, before time, make it old, unattractive, untidy. Ways to clean the oven from any pollution a lot. The main thing - do not be lazy to regularly take care of your kitchen equipment.
